Unless you live under a rock, it’s kind of hard to miss the ice bucket challenge that’s making the rounds these days, raising awareness and research money for ALS. I guess you might say that this Random Note of Gratitude was inspired by all of that, particularly the brave man and beloved athlete who’s own diagnosis put it on the map in the first place, Lou Gehrig. Weeks after Lou’s diagnosis went public he delivered what has been called baseball’s Gettysburg Address, at one point commenting, “Fans, for the past two weeks you have been reading about the bad break I got. Yet today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth.” This note isn’t about ALS per say, as much as it is about you, another Lou doing the best you can in this world we live in. Regardless of fame or fortune, we are all met with challenges and blessings in our lives. The important thing is that we show up for all of it. So for showing up in your life Lou through the good and the bad and for being there for those you hold dear, you have my gratitude.
