Make the Most of Yourself in New Hampshire
Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Make the most of yourself…for that is all there is of you.” It is with this thought in mind that I send you this Random Note of Gratitude, a weekly gesture I make to a stranger, to say thanks for being who you are. In a culture where we are bombarded with images of all it is that we are supposed to be, it’s sometimes hard to remember, appreciate, and love who it is that we actually are and to know that that is enough. So for what it’s worth Arthur, a woman you don’t know is sending gratitude from Colorado, thanking you for making the most of yourself and putting your best self out in the world. It isn’t always easy, but it is worth it. Thank you!
All the best,Jana

The Life in Your Years Abraham Lincoln
Dear Mr. Lincoln,
You probably wouldn't recognize the world we live in today, but you'll be happy to know your wise words and steadfast way of being still inspire. No doubt it is the time of year - we are about 36 hours out from 2014 here in Califonia - but these words you spoke are particularly resonant.
"In the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years."
This sentiment really makes me think and if I'm honest, I have spent a lot of time passing time, collecting years but often missing the experience of the people, places, and things that have been right there in front of me. I don't think that's something that just happens. I think it's a choice.
As I move into this New Year and all the new years to come, regardless of how many there may be, I want to practice being the kind of woman now, that on her death bed then won't even think to count the years. Instead, may I celebrate a life of love and loss, of joy and pain…may I celebrate richly textured relationships and places…may I celebrate a life fully lived and experienced.
Dear Mr. Lincoln, for your kind words of wisdom, I offer you this Random Note of Gratitude with my commitment to put a great deal more life in my years.
